Facts About Project Pathways
Informational Flyer

Project Pathways is a collaboration between Mills College, the Alameda County Office of Education, local school districts and partner  universities. Pathways is funded by a Title III grant from the  U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition. From 2002-2007, Pathways will train 85+ bilingual instructional aides and others to become teachers.

Advisement and networking for anyone who applies to the program:

The Project Pathways staff coordinate with academic advisors, financial aid, transcript evaluation services, and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, to insure applicants get accurate and timely information about their course of study, graduation requirements and pathways to becoming a teacher.

College from Beginning to a Teaching Credential

Pathways provides advisement to people at any point in their education. We provide financial support to all scholars eligible to graduated by 2007.

General advisement for the community
The credentialing process is complex in California, and states and districts are adjusting their programs to meet federal requirements of the No Child Left Behind law. PATHWAYS seeks to provide accurate and up-to-date information to the community about how to become a teacher, and where to go for information.

Who are the current Pathway Scholars?

Pathways Scholars have a rich variety of experiences working with youth, children, and families in many different capacities – as instructional aides, youth development coordinators, reform coordinators, Parent Liaisons, substitute teachers and interns. Many come from other fields – engineering, cooking, homemaking, and more. Some of the instructional aides in our program have worked in the classroom for years before deciding to study for a teaching credential.

They are all bilingual in Spanish and English, have experience working with students and a desire to work with English Language Learners as a credentialed teacher.
